(7n-1)/(8)=6

Okay,
I think I add 1 to both sides, so now I have..

(7n)/(8)=7

And then, to get n by itself I divide 7 into both sides, so now I have..

n/8=1

n=1 is what I get, but I'm not sure, could someone please check this for me?

No. Hang your head in shame :)

Multiply both sides by 8
7n-1=48
add one to each side, then divide each side by 7

No ,

first you multiply each side by 8 to get
7n - 1= 48
now add 1 to each side
7n = 49
divide both sides by 7
n = 7

check: in original
((7(7) -1 1)/6
= (49-1)/6
= 48/8
= 6
Check!!

Ohhh,

thanks you very much,
I wasn't sure which step I did first.:)

To solve the equation (7n-1)/8 = 6, you've correctly started by adding 1 to both sides to isolate the term with n:

(7n - 1)/8 + 1 = 6 + 1.

Next, simplify:

(7n - 1)/8 + 1 = 7.

Now, to get rid of the fraction, multiply both sides by 8:

((7n - 1)/8 + 1) × 8 = 7 × 8.

Simplifying further:

7n - 1 + 8 = 56.

Combine like terms:

7n + 7 = 56.

Subtract 7 from both sides:

7n + 7 - 7 = 56 - 7.

Simplifying further:

7n = 49.

Finally, to solve for n, divide both sides by 7:

(7n)/7 = 49/7.

Simplify:

n = 7.

Therefore, the value of n that satisfies the equation (7n-1)/8 = 6 is n = 7.
