Who destroyed the Heorot and how?

My answer: I think Grendel destroyed the Herot but I am not sure how. This story is hard to comprehend!

According to the story, when Grendal attacked Herot, Beowulf pretended to be asleep until Grendal got close enough for him to grab. He grab Grendal's arm in a "fierce" grasp and no matter what Grendal tried, that grasp could not be broken. Finally, Grendal's arm was torn out at the shoulder. Grendal died.

In the epic poem Beowulf, the Heorot is a mead hall in Denmark that is attacked and destroyed by a monster named Grendel. Grendel is described as a fearsome and powerful creature that is driven by a deep hatred for the joy and happiness found in the Heorot. He is believed to be a descendant of Cain, from the biblical story of Cain and Abel.

To better understand the story, you can read Beowulf. It is one of the oldest and most important pieces of English literature, which provides a detailed account of the events surrounding the destruction of the Heorot and Beowulf's journey to fight against Grendel.

The poem itself unfolds the tale and describes how Grendel sneaks into the Heorot at night when its inhabitants are asleep, and violently attacks and kills many of the warriors present. Grendel possesses incredible strength and is impervious to weapons, making him an exceptionally difficult foe to defeat.

Beowulf, a renowned warrior from the land of the Geats, hears of the Heorot's plight and voluntarily comes to offer his assistance. In a battle against Grendel, Beowulf engages in a fierce hand-to-hand combat and eventually manages to tear off Grendel's arm, mortally wounding him. Grendel, unable to escape, flees back to his lair within the swamp and dies soon after.

So, to summarize, Grendel is the one who destroys the Heorot, and he does so by sneaking into the hall at night and brutally attacking its inhabitants. Beowulf later defeats Grendel in a gruesome battle, saving the Heorot from further destruction.
