I am a preschool teacher and my kids are between the ages of 2-4... what art activity could I give them that connects to the letter E....

How about drawing or coloring

elephant
eggs
elk
ear
eat

They could fingerpaint, trying to make the letter E.

These activities might not work with the youngest children.

Btw -- a lot is two words.

thanks alot....

I was thinking about doing some kind of envelope activity that is connected to the mailman... since our theme for this week is community... do u have any other ideas that connects to a community theme

How about a trip to a fire department to look at the ENGINE?

They might also talk to an EMT.

Oh that's a good Idea.. thx

You're welcome.

Of course you must read the Dr. Seuss book, Horton Hatches the Egg.

For an art activity that connects to the letter E, you could consider creating an "Elephant Collage". Here's how you can plan and conduct this art activity:

1. Introduce the letter E: Begin by introducing the letter E to the children. Show them how the letter looks, and ask if they can think of any words that start with the letter E. This will help build their letter recognition and vocabulary skills.

2. Discuss elephants: Talk to the children about elephants, describing their appearance, their large ears, and their trunks. Show them pictures of elephants or use a book to engage them in a brief discussion about these fascinating creatures.

3. Prepare the materials: Set up a designated art area with the following materials: construction paper (preferably gray or other elephant-like colors), child-safe scissors, glue sticks, markers, and various art supplies such as googly eyes, yarn, feathers, or tissue paper.

4. Create elephant shapes: Provide the children with pre-cut elephant shapes made from construction paper. You can either draw and cut out the elephant shapes yourself, or find printable templates online. Alternatively, you can guide the children in drawing their own elephant shapes on the construction paper and help them cut them out if necessary.

5. Decorate the elephants: Encourage the children to decorate their elephants using the art supplies provided. They can use markers to draw details such as eyes, tusks, and wrinkles. They can also use other materials like yarn for the tail, feathers for texture, or cut-out shapes to create patterns on the elephants.

6. Assemble the collage: Once the elephants are decorated, help the children stick them onto a larger piece of construction paper to create a collage. They can arrange their elephants in different positions or create a scene with multiple elephants.

7. Label the artwork: After finishing the collage, assist the children in labeling their artwork with the letter E. You can write the letter E on the collage and have them trace or copy it. This reinforces their association between the activity and the letter.

8. Celebrate and display: Celebrate the children's efforts by praising their creativity and discussing the art pieces. Allow them to share their artwork with their peers, and create an art display in your classroom using the elephant collages.

By connecting the art activity to both the letter E and elephants, the children will not only enjoy creating their artwork but also reinforce their letter recognition, vocabulary, and fine motor skills.
