I have to do a story map for the book Honus and me by dan gutman..they are asking for the place and the setting ..wouldnt that be the same thing

Matt, although this is not my area of expertise, setting would seem to include time factors — era, season, time of day — plus social factors — family, school, social and work relatioships — beside the place — country, city, neighborhood, school, job location and so on.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.

Thank you for using the Jiskha Homework Help Forum. With respect to your question, "place" usually means location and/or regiion. The "setting" usually means the time, place of the action and in a theatrical or film production, the scenery.

The terms "place" and "setting" can sometimes be used interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same thing in the context of a story map. The "place" refers to the specific location where the events of the story take place, whereas the "setting" encompasses not only the physical location but also includes the time period, atmosphere, and the overall environment in which the story unfolds.

To determine the place and setting of the book "Honus and Me" by Dan Gutman, you will need to read the book or conduct some research. Here's how you can go about it:

1. Read the book: Reading the book will provide you with the most accurate and detailed information about the place and setting. Pay attention to any descriptions of the location, time period, and atmosphere mentioned by the author.

2. Identify the key locations: Take note of the different places mentioned in the book where significant events occur. These could be specific towns, cities, buildings, or landmarks.

3. Identify the time period: Determine the time period in which the story is set. Look for clues such as the mention of historical events, clothing styles, or technological advancements.

4. Note the atmospheric details: Consider the overall atmosphere and mood of the story. Is it set in a peaceful rural setting, a bustling city, or a fantastical realm? The atmosphere can help you understand the setting more deeply.

5. Research if necessary: If the book does not explicitly mention the setting, you may need to conduct some research. Look for interviews with the author or analysis of the book that provides insights into the setting. You can also research the historical context if the book is set in a specific time period.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify the place (specific location) and the setting (including time period, atmosphere, and overall environment) of "Honus and Me" for your story map.
