Rate of Change

You are given the dollar value of a product in 2008 and the rate at which the value of the product is expected to change the nest 5 years. write a linear equation that gives the dollar value V of the product in terms of the yeart.(let t= 0 represents 2000.)

2008 value- $1850

Rate- $250 increases per year

need help don't quite understand the question

use y = mx + b or

Value = mt + b
m is the slope, or the rate, so we have m = 250
and Value = 250t + b

in 2008 (t=8) the value was 1850
so that is like having an ordered pair (8,1850). Let's sub that in

1850 = 250(8) + b
b = -150

Value = 250t - 150

check, when t=8 (in 2008)
value = 250(8) - 150
= 1850

This is a silly question, since in 2000 the value of the product would have been $ -150.

really need help asap

ok i see how you did all this but where did you get the 8 from?

It said right in your own question that

(let t= 0 represents 2000.)

so if t=0 represents 2000
t = 8 represents 2008
t = 1 represents 2001 etc.

ook i get it and how did you get that b =-150

ook thanks i get the steps now

I solved

1850 = 250(8) + b

Since you labeled your subject "Calculus", I assumed you could solve such an equation.
