The modern legacies of the Puritans are those people who believe that

* young people's clothing is immodest
* sex outside of marriage is immoral
* today's music is evil
* even mild swear words are wrong

I'm sure you and your friends can think of other examples of modern Puritanism.

-clothing
-church services
-drinking
-gambling
-theatre
-music
-mild swear words

I don't know if this is right, please help.

But you didn't explain how your list is an example of modern Puritanism.

Your question asks for aspects of society -- not just a list of nouns.

-clothing, because back then the clothing were usually worn in dark colours and and were supposed to be covering everything

-church services, because back then they were simple and plain, but now they're not

-drinking, because back then people used to drink alot mostly the poor because of their lackness to buy the good food, but now people are just drinking casually

-gambling, because back then there used to be a lot of gambling which caused alot of troubles

-music, because back then the music was religiouus type but now its full of swear words

-mild swear words because back then you weren't allowed to utter a single swaer word but now people swear all the time

is this right please help, I have tried and tried

That looks great, Sara. :-)

thank u Ms. Sue you have delighted me

You're very welcome, Sara.

puritans

Your list seems to be on the right track. The Puritans were known for their strict moral code and desire to purify the Church of England from what they saw as corrupt practices. Here are a few more examples of aspects of society today that could be seen as having puritan origins:

1. Sunday blue laws: Some states still have laws that restrict certain activities and businesses on Sundays, reflecting the Puritan belief in observing the Sabbath day and avoiding activities seen as sinful or against God's will.

2. Abstinence-only education: The Puritans emphasized sexual purity and the sanctity of marriage. Today, there are still movements and organizations that promote abstinence as the only acceptable form of sex education.

3. Prohibition: The temperance movement in the late 19th and early 20th centuries was fueled by the ideals of temperance and moderation that originated with the Puritans. This eventually led to the prohibition of alcohol in the United States from 1920 to 1933.

4. Dress codes and modesty standards: The Puritans believed in modesty in dress and discouraged elaborate clothing and jewelry. Today, some schools and workplaces still have dress codes that promote modesty.

5. Censorship and moral policing: The Puritans were known for their strict control over cultural expressions such as theater and literature. Today, there are still debates around censorship, moral-panic over explicit content in media, and calls to regulate or ban certain forms of entertainment.

Remember, these are just a few examples, and different aspects can vary in different societies. It's important to consider the broader context and historical development of these ideas to understand their Puritan origins.
