Im doing an essay and Im going to write the name of a school. what do i put around it, quotation marks or capitalize it or underline the name?

The first letters of the names of schools are capitalized. We don't use quotation marks, italics, or underlining.

Examples:
Hirsch High School
University of Michigan

If you are going to name the school, then University of Texas, or South Bend Junior High School would be the proper way to write it. You do not need underlining or quotation marks.

if you are going to name a school then you should capitalize it only.

When writing the name of a school in an essay, the standard practice is to capitalize it. This applies to both the official full name of the school and any common abbreviations or acronyms. For example, if you are referring to "Stanford University," you would capitalize the entire name. However, if you are using a more general term like "university" or "school," you would not capitalize it.

On the other hand, quotation marks are typically used when referencing the title of a specific article, essay, or short story within your text. Underlining is not commonly used when writing essays or other academic papers. However, if you are handwriting your essay or using a typewriter, underlining can be used as a substitute for italics to indicate the title of a larger work, such as a book or a play.

Remember to check with your instructor or refer to the specific style guide (e.g., MLA, APA, Chicago) you are using for your essay, as different style guides may have slight variations in their formatting guidelines.
