I have a TI-83 Plus calculator and was wanting to plot some data from my homework, but when I want to insert the x and y on my calculator, I only have an X column and no Y column. How can I add that column in order for me to plot my data?

I'm looking at my calculator but I really don't know under what button your looking under. Maybe If you told me what are you looking under and what your plotting exactly maybe I could help you out.

What I am looking at is press the 2nd key and then graph..I would like to plot (-1,-4) to make sure that I plotted it right.

To add a Y column to your TI-83 Plus calculator, you can follow these steps:

1. Turn on your calculator and go to the STAT menu by pressing the "STAT" button.
2. Press the right arrow key to navigate to the second menu option, "Edit" (labeled "EDIT" on the TI-83 Plus).
3. Press the "ENTER" button to enter the Edit menu.
4. By default, the cursor will be in the first row of the X column. Type in the corresponding X values for your data points. For example, if you want to plot (-1,-4), enter -1 in the X column located on the left side of the calculator screen.
5. Now, use the down arrow key to move the cursor to the first row of the Y column. Type in the corresponding Y values for your data points. For example, enter -4 in the Y column located on the right side of the calculator screen.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for each data point you want to plot.
7. Once you have entered all your data, press the "GRAPH" button (labeled "GRAPH" or "2nd" then "GRAPH" on the TI-83 Plus) to plot the data points on the graph.

Following these steps, you should be able to add both X and Y columns and plot your data points on your TI-83 Plus calculator.

To add a Y column on your TI-83 Plus calculator and plot the data, you will need to follow these steps:

1. Turn on your calculator by pressing the "ON" button.
2. Press the "STAT" button to access the Stat menu.
3. Select "1: Edit..." by pressing the corresponding number or using the arrow keys and pressing "ENTER".
4. You will see a table with multiple columns labeled "L1", "L2", etc. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the column where you want to enter your Y values. Let's say you want to use "L2" as your Y column.
5. Press "CLEAR" to clear any existing data in that column.
6. Enter your Y values in the desired column, for example, -4 in L2(1) to represent the value of Y at X = -1.
7. Press the "GRAPH" button to plot the data.

To verify if you have plotted the point (-1, -4) correctly, follow these steps:

1. Press the "WINDOW" button to adjust the window settings if necessary.
2. Set the Xmin (minimum X value) to a value smaller than -1, Xmax (maximum X value) to a value larger than -1, Ymin (minimum Y value) to a value smaller than -4, and Ymax (maximum Y value) to a value larger than -4.
3. Press the "GRAPH" button to see the plot.
4. If the point (-1, -4) is plotted correctly, it should appear on the graph.

These instructions should help you add a Y column and plot your data on the TI-83 Plus calculator.
