How do you divide 4 by 5??

4/5=0.8 but how do i get the answer to show my work

You could show it by long division.

Put a decimal point after the 5, and continue from there.

i know that i tried it but i keep getting 125

5 goes into 4.0 = 0.8

. . 0.5
___________
5 / 4.0

This did not help, I am still confused.

Turn the problem around. Make sure that you divide 4 by 5.

To show the work when dividing 4 by 5, you can follow these steps:

1. Write down the divisor (5) and the dividend (4).
2. Set up the division problem with the divisor on the left and the dividend on the right. Place a horizontal line, known as the division bar, between them.
```
0. <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
```
3. Since 4 is smaller than 5, you place a decimal point after the 4 in the quotient (0.).
```
0. <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
```
4. Multiply the divisor (5) by a number that makes it as close as possible to the dividend (4) without exceeding it. In this case, the closest number is 0, as 5 multiplied by 0 is 0. Write that number above the dividend, right above the decimal point.
```
0.0 <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
```
5. Subtract the product from the dividend.
```
0.0 <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
- 0
```
The result is 4.

6. Bring down the next digit from the dividend (0). Combine it with the previous result (4) to form a new dividend (40).
```
0.0 <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
- 0
------
40
```
7. Repeat step 4 and step 5 with the new dividend (40). This time, divide 40 by 5, which equals 8. Write the quotient (8) above the division bar, on the right side of the decimal point.
```
0.08 <dividend>
------
5<divisor>
- 0
------
40
- 40
```
The result is 0.8.

So, dividing 4 by 5 equals 0.8.
