I have a question regarding my intro paragraph for my essay, this is MLA format.

If I have a quotation at the beginning of my essay and it is longer than 4 lines, what I say next following the quotation, the first sentence, does it have to be indented? Example:

below's quotation is single spaced, indented twice, and blocked
"-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"

This paragraph is not indented.

ORRR

"----------------------------------------------------------------------"

This paragraph is indented.

Ok, it didn't work out too well the second example is supposed to be indented five spaces to the right

Yes, indent if it is a new paragraph, if it is not a new paragraph, then don't indent.

In MLA format, if you have a quotation at the beginning of your essay and it is longer than four lines, you need to format it as a block quotation. For block quotations, you should use double spacing, indent the entire quotation half an inch from the left margin, and do not use quotation marks unless they are part of the original text.

After the block quotation, you do not need to indent the first sentence of your own writing. The first sentence of your paragraph following the block quotation should start at the regular left margin, without any indentation. This is because the block quotation itself is already indented.

So, in your case, the correct format would be:

Below's quotation is single-spaced, indented twice, and blocked:
"-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"

This paragraph is not indented.
