why do you think windows is so prevalent?

Good marketing by Microsoft? Not only to buyers but to manufacturers, too (such as Dell, Vaio, HP, IBM, etc.)

Windows has had a virtual monopoly on personal computers for years. As software manufacturers gain more profit by making programs with the largest user base, most programs are designed with Windows in mind. The cycle perpetuates itself as many users buy Windows to have easy access to the software they want.

Marth is right. I'd love to have a Mac, but those computers are more expensive than PCs AND I'd have to replace all the software I currently use (Office, Quicken, etc.)

I am sitting right now in front of my old outdated-PC typing this while my brand new Mac is playing Schubert's Trio No 2 beside me, using the Mac's wonderful I-programs.

You are all right, I have many programs on my PC, some home-made, which do not work on the Mac, and vice versa.

I think the close association between IBM and Microsoft helped both tremendously.

We are a nonprofit training dropouts and other Americans needing help preparing for employment and entrepreneurship. Are there any opportunties to train and employ this segment of people?

We were wondering about restoring computer company online service operaters to American soil.

Please give us assistance in researching these areas?

Thank you,

Windows is a prevalent operating system for several reasons, including historical factors, user-friendly interface, software availability, and market dominance.

Historically, Microsoft made alliances with hardware manufacturers, which helped establish Windows as the dominant operating system for personal computers. This resulted in widespread adoption by both individuals and businesses.

Windows also gained popularity due to its user-friendly interface. The graphical user interface (GUI) of Windows made it easier for users to navigate and interact with the computer, compared to command-line interfaces used in older operating systems.

Additionally, Windows has a vast range of software available. Many popular applications, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite, and various multimedia tools, continue to be primarily developed for Windows. This software compatibility has contributed to its prevalence, as users often choose the platform that is most compatible with their preferred software.

Lastly, Windows has maintained its position of dominance in the market. As the majority of computer users rely on Windows, it creates a network effect where users can easily share files, collaborate, and address compatibility concerns. This further reinforces the position of Windows as the go-to operating system.

To understand why Windows is so prevalent, it is essential to consider these historical, user-oriented, software compatibility, and market dominance factors. It is the culmination of these factors that has contributed to Windows' popularity and widespread usage.
