Could someone please explain this to me and show me a small example of what a paper should look like with these citation, it's been about 15 years since I've been out of school. Help please? lol

For APA guidelines for the format of your paper as well as for reference and citation:

For MLA guidelines:

Certainly! When it comes to research papers, proper citation is important to give credit to the sources you have used and to allow readers to locate those sources themselves. MLA (Modern Language Association) and APA (American Psychological Association) are two common citation styles used in academic writing. Here's a brief explanation of each style and an example of how to cite a source in each style:

1. MLA Style:
- In MLA style, the citations should include the author's name and the page number(s) of the source within parentheses in the body of the paper. The full reference is provided in the Works Cited page at the end of the paper.
- Example in-text citation: (Smith 42)
- Example Works Cited entry:

Smith, John. "Patient Privacy under HIPAA Regulations." Journal of Medical Ethics, vol. 25, no. 2, 2010, pp. 37-52.

2. APA Style:
- In APA style, citations include the author's name and the year of publication within parentheses in the body of the paper. The full reference is provided in the References page at the end of the paper.
- Example in-text citation: (Smith, 2010)
- Example References entry:

Smith, J. (2010). Patient privacy under HIPAA regulations. Journal of Medical Ethics, 25(2), 37-52.

Regarding formatting of the paper itself, both MLA and APA have specific guidelines for margins, font size, headings, etc. You can find detailed guides and examples for formatting and citation in both MLA and APA in various online resources, such as Purdue OWL (Online Writing Lab).

Remember, it's crucial to be consistent with the chosen citation style throughout your paper and ensure that all the sources you have used are properly cited. This helps maintain academic integrity and avoids plagiarism.
