i have to write an anniversary poem for my parents 19th anniversary,

this is what i have written. but it sounds weird, and a little incomplete
can anyone fix it up:

When we are together
We are content and happy
There is so much love to share
There is no room to be snappy
Though we are four, we never had to settle a war (?) (there's 4 of us kids)
BEcause both of you were always there and disputes existed no more
19 years is a very long time
16 of which I can assure you , were divine (i'm 16)
through good times and bad
you were always there for us mom and dad

and adding to our happiness
you have given us something more
a baby just like you
a baby worth living for

it sounds so weird. especially the war part
i'm trying to focus on rhyming
so the words sometimes don't make sense

I am sure your parents will like it just the way it is, especially if you read it to them, despite some awkwardness in places. I had the same problem ay your age writing poetry and searching for rhyming words at the expense of style, sentimentality and meter. Poetry is hard; you have made a fine effort, particularly if English is not your native tongue.

we never had to settle a war = we never were at war (slightly shorter)

BEcause both of you were always there and disputes existed no more = Because of you, disputes were no more. (Now both lines have about the same number of beats.

But I agree with drwls; your parents will love the effort!

thanks guys

Writing a poem for your parents' 19th anniversary is a great idea to show them your love and appreciation. Here's a revised version of your poem:

When we are together,
Our hearts overflow with joy,
Bound by love that lasts forever,
No room for anger to deploy.

Four siblings we may be,
Yet conflicts we rarely meet,
With you both by our side we see,
Disputes resolved, unity complete.

Nineteen years, a journey far,
Sixteen I've witnessed, pure and divine,
Through highs and lows, no matter how bizarre,
You've been there, unwavering and kind.

But beyond your love and care,
You've blessed us with more to adore,
A sibling, so precious and rare,
A gift that makes life worth living for.

This revised version maintains a focus on rhyming while also addressing the original issue. Instead of mentioning war settling, it highlights the harmony and unity your parents have brought to your family. It also presents a more lyrical structure while expressing your gratitude for their love and the wonderful addition of your sibling.
