I'm writing an essay on the Supreme Court case of Rostker vs. Goldberg(1981) I have to describe the case, talk about if I agree or diagree with the outcome and explain why or why not.I'm not very good at writing introductions but could any critique me on what I have so far for the introduction... -In the 1981 Supreme Court Case of Rostker vs. Goldberg the debate was weather women should be included in any future draft registration. In the end the Court ruled that women did not have to be included in the draft registration. I do not agree with the outcome because I believe that women are just as capable of fighting in combat positions as men are.

You have an excellent introduction. :-) I've made a couple of minor corrections.

In the 1981 Supreme Court Case of Rostker vs. Goldberg, the debate was whether women should be included in any future draft registration. In the end the Court ruled that women did not have to be included in the draft registration. I do not agree with the outcome because I believe that women are just as capable of fighting in combat positions as men.

Thank you so much! All I have left now is the rest of the essay. My 2nd paragraph should describe the case, 3rd paragraph state whether I agree or disagree then explain why or why not and my 4th paragraph would be my conclusion does this look okay so far? I feel as though I got to the main point of what the case was about and gave a reason as to why I disagreed with the outcome in the Introduction. So wouldnt it be sort of describing the whole case all over again in the 2nd paragraph? and explaining why I don't agree in the 3rd paragraph?

You have an error in your argument: the case concerned the draft, and you are arguing combat positions. Many of the folks being drafted were not sent to combat, in fact, some were unfit for combat. Military service includes many, many non-combatant positions.

You're very welcome.

In your second paragraph, you need to go into more detail about the case, why it was brought to the Supreme Court, and the implicit ramifications. You might want to briefly quote from the majority and minority opinions of the Justices.

In your third paragraph, give reasons and examples why you believe that women should be allowed to be in combat.

Would this make a better argument: I do not agree with the outcome because I believe that men and women are equal. Therefore, if men are required at 18 to register for the draft women should also be required to.

That is a stronger argument. Instead of focusing solely on combat positions, you are now highlighting the principle of gender equality. This argument can be further expanded upon in your third paragraph by providing examples and evidence to support your belief that men and women should be treated equally when it comes to draft registration.

As for your second paragraph, you can still describe the case but focus on the background, facts, and legal arguments that led to the Supreme Court's ruling. This should provide a more comprehensive understanding of the case while avoiding repetition.

For your third paragraph, you can then explain your disagreement with the outcome by elaborating on the principle of gender equality. You can also discuss any potential societal or legal implications of excluding women from draft registration.

Finally, your conclusion should summarize the main points of your essay and reiterate your stance on the outcome of the case.

Remember to support your arguments with evidence, such as legal precedents, statistical data, or expert opinions. This will strengthen your essay and make it more persuasive.
