I have a question..

I have a 90.7% in math right now and I need to bring it up to a 93%. The only thing left is the final exam, which is worth 10% of your grade.

Does anyone know a formula or a method that will allow me to calculate what I need on the final exam to bump me up that 2.7%?

Thank you very much for your help.

93=.1Final + .9*90.7
solve for final. I get 114 about.

Aw...no way!!

It's impossible to get a 114% on the final.

Thanks for your help though, it really helped.

To calculate what you need on the final exam to achieve a certain overall grade, you can use the weighted average formula. In this case, the final exam is worth 10% of your grade, and your current grade is 90.7%. Let's denote the final exam score as "F".

The formula would be:

Desired grade = (Weight of final exam * Final exam score) + (Weight of current grade * Current grade)

Since you want to achieve a 93% overall grade, the formula would be:

93 = (0.1 * F) + (0.9 * 90.7)

Now, let's solve for F:

93 - (0.9 * 90.7) = 0.1F

To simplify, subtract (0.9 * 90.7) from both sides:

93 - 81.63 = 0.1F

11.37 = 0.1F

To isolate F, divide both sides by 0.1:

F = 11.37 / 0.1

F = 113.7

Based on this calculation, you would need to score 113.7% on the final exam to achieve a 93% overall grade. However, a score above 100% is not possible in most grading systems. Therefore, it is not possible to bring your grade up to 93% by only considering the final exam.

It's always a good idea to consult with your teacher or professor to understand the grading system and any options you may have to improve your grade.

To calculate what you need on the final exam to achieve a desired overall grade, you can use the following formula:

Final Exam Grade = (Desired Grade - (Weighted Average * (1 - Exam Weight))) / Exam Weight

In this case:
Desired Grade = 93%
Weighted Average = 90.7%
Exam Weight = 10%

Plugging in these values into the formula:

Final Exam Grade = (0.93 - (0.907 * (1 - 0.1))) / 0.1
Final Exam Grade = (0.93 - (0.907 * 0.9)) / 0.1
Final Exam Grade = (0.93 - 0.8163) / 0.1
Final Exam Grade = 0.1137 / 0.1
Final Exam Grade = 1.137

It appears there might have been an error in the calculation. The result for the final exam grade needed to achieve a 93% overall would be 1.137 or 113.7%. However, it is not possible to score above 100% on an exam, so there seems to be a mistake in the given information or calculation.
