(x+3/4)^2 = 17/16

My teacher taught us a square root method, but I am confused with it on this one! I would prefer if you show me using square roots, but if you have another way, please help too!

If we forget about negative square roots,

x + 3/4 = sqrt (17/16) = 1.030776..
x = 0.280776..

I have assumed that you meant (x + 3/4) and not (x+3)/4

Another (negative) answer would be
-x - 3/4 = 1.030776..
x = -1.780776
