Need help with these-

Type the word that the phrase in CAPS modifies

1.He brushed the red dust OFF THE SANDBAG and stepped back from the plate.
Not sure about this...

2.Put the pans of bread IN THE OVEN
I think it's pans...or could it be bread?

Thanks

1. Does this phrase describe a noun or tell how or why or where an action was done?

2. What is in the oven? Just the bread? Or is the bread in pans??

For #1, the second choice

and #2:: the bread is in the pans but you can only write one word, so it's either pans or bread.

So ... what will you indicate for each sentence?

(Hint1: "bread" is the object of its own preposition. Hint2: Can the bread be in the oven without the pans?)

No, so #2 is pans

-MC

#1 is....dust?

-MC

Please check if my answers in the 2 posts above are correct

Thank you

#1 is the verb -- the preposition is telling "from where" the dust was brushed.

#2, yes, is "pans."

brushed?

-MC

Right. The phrase modifies "brushed."
