To measure and get exactly 4 gallons of water using an unmarked 5-gallon bucket and an unmarked 3-gallon bucket, you can follow these steps:

1. Start by filling the 5-gallon bucket to its maximum capacity.
2. Pour the water from the 5-gallon bucket into the 3-gallon bucket. This leaves 2 gallons of water remaining in the 5-gallon bucket.
3. Empty the 3-gallon bucket.
4. Pour the 2 gallons of water from the 5-gallon bucket into the empty 3-gallon bucket.
5. Now, you have 2 gallons of water in the 3-gallon bucket and an empty 5-gallon bucket.
6. Fill the 5-gallon bucket to its maximum capacity again.
7. Pour water from the 5-gallon bucket into the 3-gallon bucket until it is full. This will leave 4 gallons of water remaining in the 5-gallon bucket.

Following these steps will allow you to measure and obtain exactly 4 gallons of water using the given equipment.
