When your doing an essay you know how you put the page numbers in the top right: Smith 1

Put when my essay is a group of two people, do I put:
Smith & Jones 1
Smith and Jones 1

I can't seems to find anything on that. Thanks

Thanks, but I went through several and they say what I already know. I've just never done an essay with 2 people and wondering if I have to use both last names. Thanks for your time.

When it comes to including multiple authors' names and page numbers in an essay, there are specific formatting guidelines to follow, depending on the citation style you are using. Two common citation styles are APA (American Psychological Association) and MLA (Modern Language Association). Let's explore the guidelines for each style:

1. APA Style:
In APA style, when citing a source with two authors, you should include both authors' last names, joined by an ampersand (&) without any punctuation. For example, if the authors are Smith and Jones, the essay's citation would be:
- Smith & Jones 1.

For subsequent citations within the essay, you can follow the same approach: (Smith & Jones 2).

2. MLA Style:
In MLA style, when citing a source with two authors, you should include both authors' last names, joined by the word "and" without any punctuation. For example, if the authors are Smith and Jones, the essay's citation would be:
- Smith and Jones 1.

For subsequent citations within the essay, you can follow the same approach: (Smith and Jones 2).

Remember, it is essential to consult the specific guidelines provided by your instructor or the style manual related to your academic discipline to ensure accurate formatting. These guidelines may vary based on the citation style being used.
