I never got the fractions,

Determine the maximum and minimum values of the following set of numbers.
2,-8,1/2,-5/3,9/4,-7,-73/9

I think the answer is -73/9 and 1/2 am I right if not can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong??

change them all to have a common denominator, in your case that would be 36

now compare the numerators to determine relative size

(the largest negative numerator will be the minimum)

If you just want "results" without justification, just punch your expressions in a calculator and look the decimals.

the smallest is -73/9 and the largest is 9/4

You are correct in thinking that the minimum value in the set is -73/9 and the maximum value is 9/4.

To determine the maximum and minimum values, we can start by finding a common denominator for all the fractions in the set. In this case, the common denominator would be 36.

Next, we compare the numerators of the fractions to determine their relative sizes. The largest negative numerator will be the minimum value, and the largest positive numerator will be the maximum value.

Converting the fractions to have a common denominator of 36:
2 = 72/36
-8 = -288/36
1/2 = 18/36
-5/3 = -60/36
9/4 = 81/36
-7 = -252/36
-73/9 = -292/36

Now, we can compare the numerators:
-292 < -288 < -252 < -60 < 18 < 72 < 81

As a result, the minimum value is -73/9 and the maximum value is 9/4.

Alternatively, if you just want the results without the justification, you can plug the expressions into a calculator and convert the fractions to decimals. From there, you can easily compare the decimal values to determine the minimum and maximum.
