It's easier to perform the 11-7 first.
11-7 is 4.
Now, take 4 of something. Cut one of them up into 7 pieces and take away 6 of the 7 pieces. What are you left with?

the answer would be 1 ?
You'd still have the other 3. Plus 1 out of 7 of the other one.
So 3 1/7
(3 and one out of 7)
Ok can you show all together so I can understand Please
1) Get 11 straws. (Or something that's just as easy to cut)
2) Our problem says 11 - 7 - 6/7. Since we have a fraction (6/7) let's cut one straw into 7 pieces.
3) Now, the first part says 11-7. Take away 7 full straws. That leaves you with 3, plus the 7 pieces of a straw.
4) Take away 6/7 of the pieces. So if you take those away, what are you left with?
3 1/7
