We had to find the surface area of various rectangular prisms. I did most of them easily, but there are two that I need a little help with...

The first one is:

The length is 13m
The width is 5m
The height is 4m
So what is the surface area?

The second one (which is a bonus question) is:

Length = 5feet
Width = 3feet
Height = 9 INCHES

Just remember after reading the above link to convert the 9 inches to feet. that being 9/12 or exactly .75 feet

To find the surface area of a rectangular prism, you need to calculate the sum of the areas of all its individual faces.

For the first problem, follow these steps to find the surface area:

1. Identify the dimensions given:
- Length = 13m
- Width = 5m
- Height = 4m

2. Calculate the surface area of each face:
- Two sides have dimensions 13m (length) x 4m (height), so their combined area is: 2 * 13m * 4m = 104m².
- The top and bottom faces have dimensions 13m (length) x 5m (width), so their combined area is: 2 * 13m * 5m = 130m².
- The remaining two faces have dimensions 5m (width) x 4m (height), so their combined area is: 2 * 5m * 4m = 40m².

3. Add up the areas of all the faces:
- Total surface area = 104m² + 130m² + 40m² = 274m².

Therefore, the surface area of the rectangular prism in the first problem is 274 square meters.

For the second problem, follow these steps with the conversion mentioned:

1. Identify the dimensions given:
- Length = 5 feet
- Width = 3 feet
- Height = 9 inches

2. Convert the height from inches to feet:
- Since 1 foot is equal to 12 inches, 9 inches is equivalent to 9/12 = 0.75 feet.

3. Calculate the surface area of each face:
- Two sides have dimensions 5 feet (length) x 0.75 feet (height), so their combined area is: 2 * 5 feet * 0.75 feet = 7.5 square feet.
- The top and bottom faces have dimensions 5 feet (length) x 3 feet (width), so their combined area is: 2 * 5 feet * 3 feet = 30 square feet.
- The remaining two faces have dimensions 3 feet (width) x 0.75 feet (height), so their combined area is: 2 * 3 feet * 0.75 feet = 4.5 square feet.

4. Add up the areas of all the faces:
- Total surface area = 7.5 square feet + 30 square feet + 4.5 square feet = 42 square feet.

Therefore, the surface area of the rectangular prism in the second problem is 42 square feet.
