A farmer enclose a rectangular paddock with 120 metres of fencing. The length of the paddock is 10m longer than it is wide. Find the dimensions of the paddock?

L = length of the paddock

W = wide of the paddock

The length of the paddock is 10m longer than it is wide mesns:

L = W + 10

P = perimeter of a rectangle

P = 2 ( W + L )

In this case:

P = 120 m

L = W + 10

so

P = 2 ( W + L )

120 = 2 ( W + W + 10 )

120 = 2 ( 2 W + 10 )

Divide both sides by 2

60 = 2 W + 10

Subtract 10 to both sides

50 = 2 W

W = 50 / 2

W = 25 m

L = W + 10 = 25 + 10

L = 35 m
