At a bakery, there were 50 more chicken pies than vegetable pies at first. After some chicken pies were sold, there were 28 more vegetable pies than chicken pies left. 3/10 of the pies left were chicken pies.

(a) How many chicken pies were there at first?
(b) What is the ratio of the number of chicken pies to the total number of pies at first?

a) initially number of vegetable pie = x

number of chicken pie = x + 50
After some chicken pies are sold
=> vegetable pie = x
chicken pie = x - 28
also 3/10 of [x + (x - 28)] = x - 28
3/10 [2x - 28] = x - 28
=> 6x - 84 = 10x - 280
=> 4x = 196
x = 49
=> initially number of chicken pies = 49 + 50 = 99
b) Ratio of chicken pies to total number of pies initially
= 99/(99 + 49) = 99/148
