Natural Hazards Unit Test

can someone help with the natural hazards unit test? for connections academy?
1.Which option correctly describes how scientists use seismic waves to locate an earthquake epicenter?(1 point)

2.Which strategy could an engineer use to design an earthquake-safe structure?
3. Why do scientists place GPS receivers near a volcano?
4.Ground vibrations are one type of volcanic activity that allows scientists to predict eruptions. Which two other types of volcanic activity do scientists look for?
5. Scientists use data to predict that a Category 5 hurricane will move out to sea, causing minimal damage to the coast. Which of the following likely provided the data?
6. Radar shows that a hurricane has sustained wind speeds of 170 miles per hour with heavy precipitation. Which is the best prediction of hurricane damage to trees in the hurricane’s path?
7. How do hurricane straps make a building more stable?
8.Which is the greatest advantage of using controlled burns versus allowing wildfires to occur naturally?
9. Which information is used to regularly update the Fire Potential Index (FPI)?
10. Which might be one reason why firefighters would allow a wildfire to continue burning, instead of putting it out?
11. In 1–2 sentences, describe one way to retrofit a structure to help prevent the structure from collapsing during a Category 5 hurricane. Include a description of how the retrofit would help prevent the structure from collapsing.
12. In 1–2 sentences, describe one way to retrofit a structure to help prevent the structure from collapsing during a Category 5 hurricane. Include a description of how the retrofit would help prevent the structure from collapsing

For connexus

1. California
2. The earthquake was caused by planet moving together. It released a lot of energy but observers do not see much damage
3. Respirators and Face shields
4. People should remain inside and close all doors and windows
5. Well-built framed homes could have major damage or removal of roof gable ends
6.a Doppler radar
7. Provide as early a warning as possible to people living in the path of a hurricane
8. Reserves in lakes levels continue to drop significantly
9. A controlled burn removes Dead vegetation that might otherwise help wildfires start and spread
10.ensure people do not have unintended cooking fires While camping.
Good luck on 11 and 12 I can’t help you there.

Which location has a high hazard level for seismic activity?

- answer: California

An earthquake occurs at a convergent boundary. The earthquake has a high magnitude, and an observer reports the earthquake having low intensity. Which statement about the earthquake is correct?

- answer: The earthquake was caused by plates moving together. It released a lot of energy, but the observer did not see much damage.

Which items include personal protective equipment (PPE) people would likely use to minimize the effects of a natural hazard?
- answer: respirators and face shields

Which statement best explains what people should do if a shelter-in-pace order is in effect as a result of a natural hazard?
- answer: People should remain inside and close all doors and windows.

Which structural damage could be expected if a Category 3 hurricane is predicted to hit an area?
- answer: Well-built framed homes could incur major damage or removal of roof decking and gable ends.

A scientist wants to study the movement of air in a hurricane in order to help prevent damage. Which tool should the scientist use to find out more about the movement of air?
- answer: a Doppler radar

Which is the best way to limit the damage caused by a hurricane?
- answer: Provide as early a warning as possible to people living in the path of a hurricane.

Use the scenario to answer the question.
A scientist uses data from satellite images to draw conclusions about a region. After analyzing the data collected, the scientist issues a drought warning for the region.
Which data best supports the scientist’s decision to issue the warning?
- answer: Reservoirs and lake levels continue to drop significantly.

The National Park Service sometimes creates controlled burns to mitigate wildfires. How does a controlled burn limit the spread of wildfires?
- answer: A controlled burn removes dead vegetation that might otherwise help a wildfire start and spread.

National Park rangers create public announcements to help prevent accidental wildfires from start. Which is a simple way that accidental wildfires can be prevented in these parks?
- answer: Ensure people do not have unattended cooking fires while camping.

11 ] In three to four sentences, explain how climate change could impact the formation of hurricanes.
[ My teacher hasn't graded this yet so idk if this is good ]
- my answer: If sea level temperatures rises, it could affect tropical storms and winds making them more dangerous l. Warm water can also affect hurricanes to be more intense and more dangerous. Warmer water also makes hurricanes form more frequently.

12 ] In 3–5 sentences, explain how meteorologists use weather data to predict the probability of a catastrophic wildfire.
[ My teacher hasn't graded this yet so idk if this is good ]
- my answer: Scientists can use data to predict if there will be a potential fire/drought. If there is heat, dry weather, vegetation then there's a chance a fire will occur. If there is dry weather, dry land, low precipitation, then it is most likely a drought since scientists can gather information on different types on weather, temperature, and humidity.

[ make sure to reword and change some stuff in 11 and 12 ]

I just turned this in and the answers are correct. I just wanted to pay you guys back for all the times you helped me out. Good luck on the written answers though idk how I did.

1. The farther away, several seismographs
2. Constructing
3. to see
4. Ground deformation, increase gas
5. Satellite
6. Most trees
7. They secure
8. Reduction of damaging
9. Daily satellite data
10. The fire
11 & 12 answer in your own words.
11. Retrofitting with straps was an answer up above. Talk more about that.
12. Remember your lesson and use your own words but here are some ideas. Remove or prune flammable plants and shrubs near windows. Remove vegetation and items that could catch fire from around and under decks, balconies and stairs. Create a separation between trees, shrubs and items that could catch fire, such as patio furniture, wood piles, swing sets, etc.
