We all know about the soda bottle volcano made by Diet Pepsi and Mentos. It causes a huge explosion! Now say someone drank Pepsi then ate a mento with it; what will happen? I got an email about a child who did this and died right away...can it really cause deaths?

Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about the email you received, but it's important to understand that drinking Pepsi and eating Mentos together is not known to cause immediate deaths. The reaction between Mentos and carbonated beverages, such as Diet Pepsi, typically results in a rapid release of carbon dioxide gas, causing an explosive eruption. However, the reaction itself does not pose a significant health risk, and it is not directly responsible for any reported deaths.

To provide some context, the eruption that occurs when Mentos is added to a carbonated beverage is due to the surface of the Mentos candy encouraging the rapid release of gas bubbles from the soda. When consumed together, the reaction between the soda and Mentos takes place in your stomach, which could potentially cause discomfort, gas, or bloating. However, the effect is typically minor and temporary.

It's important to note that any reported case of someone experiencing severe health problems or dying after consuming Pepsi and Mentos together would likely be due to other factors or underlying health issues. It is always a good idea to consult with a medical professional for accurate and specific advice regarding health concerns.

In general, it is recommended that you consume food and beverages in a safe manner and avoid any activity that could potentially cause harm. If you have any specific health concerns, it's best to reach out to a healthcare professional for guidance and clarification.
