Why Martin Luter succeed in forming own church?

Luther’s belief in justification by faith led him to question the Catholic Church’s practices of self indulgence. He objected not only to the church’s greed but to the very idea of indulgences. He did not believe the Catholic Church had the power to pardon people sins. Rather, Luther thought that salvation could be achieved only through God’s mercy. No one needed to seek or buy salvation through the church.

By nailing his theses to the church door, Luther was not acting as a heretic. He was simply inviting other scholars to respond to his ideas in a debate, an ordinary method of learning at universities of his days. At first, no one accepted Luther’s invitation. Over the next few years, however, his Ninety-Five Theses sparked a religious movement to reform the Catholic Church. Because the reformers were protesting against what they felt to be the abuses of the Catholic Church, they came to be known as Protestants. And because they wanted to reform the Catholic Church, that is, improve it by making changes, their movement is known as the Reformers.

Does that help? <3

thanks yes it dis help!

sorry one more to ask!

how about in case of John Calvin?
How he succeed in forming his own church?

John Calvin? okay....

Calvin was originally a lawyer, but he was saturated with the ideas of Northern Renaissance humanism. He was dedicated to reform of the church and he got his chance to build a reformed church when the citizens of Geneva revolted against their rulers in the 1520's. Geneva had been under the rule of the House of Savoy, but the Genevans successfully overthrew the Savoys and the local bishop-prince of Geneva in the waning years of the 1520's. The Genevans, however, unlike the citizens of Zurich, Bern, Basel, and other cities that became Protestant in the 1520's, were not German-speakers but primarily French-speakers. As such, they did not have close cultural ties with the reformed churches in Germany and Switzerland. The Protestant canton of Bern, however, was determined to see Protestantism spread throughout Switzerland. In 1533, Bern sent Protestant reformers to convert Geneva into a Protestant city; after considerable conflict, Geneva officially became Protestant in 1535.

Calvin, by now a successful lawyer, was invited to Geneva to build the new Reformed church. Calvin's efforts radically changed the face of Protestantism, for he directly addressed issues that early Reformers didn't know how or didn't want to answer. His most important work involved the organization of church governance and the social organization of the church and the city. He was, in fact, the first major political thinker to model social organization entirely on biblical principles. At first his reforms did not go over well. He addressed the issue of church governance by creating leaders within the new church; he himself developed a catechism designed to impose doctrine on all the members of the church. He and Guillaume Farel imposed a strict moral code on the citizens of Geneva; this moral code was derived from a literal reading of Christian scriptures. Naturally, the people of Geneva believed that they had thrown away one church only to see it replaced by an identical twin; in particular, they saw Calvin's reforms as imposing a new form of papacy on the people, only with different names and different people.

LOL... anything else?

how about zwingli?sorry for asking so many questions! you are very nice!:)

and one more question!

how luther's theological teachings redefine fundamental thinking?

don't worry about it that's what i'm here for. lol <3! hey what do you wanna know about zwingly, how he formed his own church also?

Here's what i know about Zwingli:

The other center of Protestantism in the first generation was eastern Switzerland. Its leader was Ulrich (also Huldrych) Zwingli. His theology was in many ways similar to Luther's, but his career was quite different, and in the end the two men disagreed on a couple of key points.
Zwingli became pastor in the parish of Glarus in 1506. There for the next ten years he continued his humanist studies, learning Greek and taking a run at Hebrew. He was also become quite a humanist during these years, finding time to increase his library and entering into correspondence with various figures, including Erasumus, whom he greatly admired. In connection with his language studies he increasingly was looking to Scripture as the authoritative voice in answering certain questions. He was considering whether anyone besides Christ should be prayed to, why there should be variations in the celebration of the Mass (he'd found differences in texts that he had found while in Italy), and whether the communicants should receive communion in both kinds. He was still at the point where he would say not only that he could find no basis in Scripture but also not in the Church Fathers. That is, he had not come yet to sola scriptura, but he was clearly moving in that direction. He was the People's Priest, this was his formal title, and he took his duties seriously. In addition to expounding on the Gospel on Sundays at the cathedral, he also gave sermons on Psalms in the town market square on Fridays, which was the town's market day. Thus, not only the townspeople heard the Word of God, so did the peasants from the surrounding countryside. In 1522 the city council authorized evangelical preaching and ended the practice of sending mercenaries. On Ash Wednesday, some of Zwingli's followers broke the Lenten fast. Zwingli did not break the fast himself, but he defended his parishoners in a sermon "On the Choice and Free Use of Foods". He also married, though secretly.
