The vertical left edge of a trapezoid is 8 inches and meets the bottom edge of the trapezoid at a right angle. The bottom edge is 4 inches and meets the vertical right edge at a right angle. The right edge is 11 inches. The top slanted edge measures 5 in

Calculate the area of the trapezoid, which is not drawn to scale.
Please help me

Can I please get some help? Here is what I am thinking 8*11=88 4*5=20 88+20=108? Is 108 correct?

the two bases (the parallel sides) of the trapezoid are 8 and 11

so, the area is
(8+11)*4/2 = 38
so you are correct

8*4 + 3*4/2 = 38 Would this be right?

where dies the three come from

@I am Confusion I think the 3 comes from subtracting the 8 and 11.

So you split it into a triangle and then you calculate the area of the triangle and the rectangle then add. So 8*4= L (I am not giving you the answers only showing you how to solve it) L=?
and 8-11 (to find the height of the triangle)= 3
3*4 (/2)= 3*2=6 L+6= A
A= ! (again not giving the answers only how to find them, you must complete the calculations your self)

someone give a clearer answer and oobleck is wrong I think.

I thought it was 108 because 11 x 8 = 88 and 4 x 5 is 20 then i added them

but i guess im stupid tho

I'm so stupid that i forgot to put the word stupid in my sentence above

oobleck is 100% correct and his math to show his work is also correct.

108 is not the answer because in doing so, did you divide it by 2?
and the math you did to get 108 is also not correct.

38 is the correct answer; you add the lenths which is 8 + 11 = 19. Then you times it by base 1 which looks like; 19 x 4 = 76. then lastly you divide 76 by 2 which gives you the answer 38.

Or in other words like oobleck did it:(8+11)*4/2 = 38

And I also took the quiz to ensure you that this is correct.
Hopes this helps :)
