is this correct?

simplify:

((1+(2)/(3))/((2+(1)/(2))

My answer: (2)/(3)

assuming that 2/3 and 1/2 are separate fractions,

8/3 x 5/2
40/6
20/3

hmm.. perhaps you need to check your arithmetic. unless i'm wrong, which wouldn't be surprising

It is hard to read because the ()'s are messed up. There are more open ones than closed ones. I'm guessing that's written like this:

1 + 2/3
--------
2 + 1/2

Is that correct?

Just want to clarify before I help.
Matt

yes that is right

So that then becomes

(5/3)/(5/2)

To work that out, multiply the numerator by the inverse of the denominator. So:

5/3 x 2/5

Or 10/15

Sam had the right idea, but not sure where he got the 8/3 from :)

Matt

To simplify the expression ((1 + (2/3))/((2 + (1/2)), we can follow these steps:

1. Rewrite the expression with proper parentheses: (1 + (2/3))/(2 + (1/2))
2. Calculate the numerator: 1 + (2/3) = 3/3 + 2/3 = 5/3
3. Calculate the denominator: 2 + (1/2) = 4/2 + 1/2 = 5/2
4. Rewrite the expression with the simplified numerator and denominator: (5/3)/(5/2)
5. To divide fractions, multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal of the second fraction: (5/3) * (2/5)
6. Multiply the numerators: 5 * 2 = 10
7. Multiply the denominators: 3 * 5 = 15
8. Simplify the fraction if possible: 10/15 = 2/3

Therefore, the simplified form of the expression ((1 + (2/3))/((2 + (1/2)) is 2/3.
