The specific heat capacity of the lava is 1600 J kg^-1. when all the erupted lava cools from the eruption temperature of 1050 degrees Celsius to 15 degrees celsius, the heat released is 2 x 10 ^15 J.
calculate a value for the total mass of lava that erupted. give your answer in scientific notation.

plzzz some one help meeee....

Dont you need the Heat of fusion also? It erupts as a liquid, but at 15C is is solid.

Ignoring that,

a gross estimate of the mass would come from

heat released= mass*specificheat*deltaTemp.

hey ken. where did you get that question?

sorry i forgot to include degrees celsius ^-1 after 1600 J kg ^-1.

so then would i multiply (2x10^15) 1600 Jkg and what temperature??

good luck with that!
