One brand of canned salmon is sold in four different sizes.

Size A The 7 1/5 -ounce can costs $3.49.
Size B The 16 1/2 -ounce can costs $6.49.
Size C The 24 3/4 -ounce can costs $8.49.
Size D The 30 2/3 -ounce can costs $10.99.
What is the unit rate for each size to the nearest cent? If the cost is less than a dollar, put a zero to the left of the decimal point.

Which size is the best buy? Explain how you know

PRETEND THERES A TEXT BOX HERE

Hey @Writeacher, I tried posting the exact same videos but couldn't.

Lol

unit rate is price per ounce. That will be $/oz

So, divide price by weight. For example,
Size A is 7 1/5 -ounce can costs $3.49
That's $3.49/7.2oz = 0.4847 $/oz
Now do the same with the others, and pick the lowest cost/oz

And we don' car 'bout no steekin' box!

The teacher only tapped on it and I barely know what a unit rate is so im not asking you to just give me the answer(though that would be nice XD ) maybe some links to videos explaining or something?

To find the unit rate for each size of canned salmon, we need to divide the cost of each size by its weight.

Size A: The 7 1/5-ounce can costs $3.49. To find the unit rate, we calculate $3.49 divided by 7 1/5, which is approximately 3.84. So, the unit rate for Size A is $3.84.

Size B: The 16 1/2-ounce can costs $6.49. Dividing $6.49 by 16 1/2, we get approximately 0.39. Therefore, the unit rate for Size B is $0.39.

Size C: The 24 3/4-ounce can costs $8.49. By dividing $8.49 by 24 3/4, we obtain approximately 0.34. Thus, the unit rate for Size C is $0.34.

Size D: The 30 2/3-ounce can costs $10.99. Dividing $10.99 by 30 2/3 yields approximately 0.36. Hence, the unit rate for Size D is $0.36.

To determine the best buy, we compare the unit rates. The lower the unit rate, the better the deal, as it implies a lower cost per ounce. Comparing the unit rates we calculated:

Size A: $3.84 per ounce
Size B: $0.39 per ounce
Size C: $0.34 per ounce
Size D: $0.36 per ounce

From these calculations, we can see that Size C has the lowest unit rate of $0.34 per ounce. Therefore, Size C would be the best buy since it offers the lowest cost per ounce compared to the other sizes.

The unit rate is the amount the customer pays per ounce.
