Sorry I need help, really bad at Algebra.

Please provide tips on how to do this for future references 🙂
5(- 3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13

actually, my last line should have been

-7 = -7 ,
which is true, so your equation has an infinite number of solutions,
see point #2 in my explanation

sorry about the error

I got -4 (from the first part of the question)

I tried 😓 sorry

5(- 3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13

for that middle term I think of it this way
5(- 3x - 2) - 1(x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13
now expand each using the distributive property
-15x - 10 - x + 3 = -16x - 20 + 13
simplify each side
-16x - 10 = -16x - 7

add 16x to both sides
-10 = -7

You have a statement which is FALSE. So there is no solution

I don't know if you meant for this to happen or not, but

1. If your variables disappear and you have a false statement left over, then there is no solution to your equation.

2. If your variables disappear and you have a true statement left over, then you have an infinite number of solutions to your equation.

3. if you end up with both a variable and a constant, you will have one real solution, if your variable is of first degree.

That's okay 🙂

5(- 3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13

-15x-10 -x+3 = -16x-20+13
-16x-7=-16x-7

For - (x - 3), imagine this to be - 1*(x - 3),multiple -1 to x, and multiply -1 to -3. That will turn out to be equal to -x+3.

In the multi-step equation 5(- 3x - 2) - (x - 3) = -4(4x + 5) + 13, first you must distribute 5 on the left side to the numbers in the parentheses.

It should look like this: 5(-3x - 2) -----> -(5 * 3x) - (5 * 2).

-(5 * 3x) = -15x. -(5 * 2) = -10.

The next step is to distribute 2 on the right side of the equation to the numbers in the parenthese it's beside of.

It should look like this: -4(4x + 5) -----> -(4 * 4x) - (4 * 5).

-(4 * 4x) = -16x. -(4 * 5) = -20.

So now the equation looks like this: -15x - 10 - (x - 3) = -16x - 20 + 13.

Now, combine like terms.

On the left side, combining like terms gives you -15x - x = -16x
and -10 + 3 = -7.

On the right side, combining like terms gives you -20 + 13 = -7.

Now you have the expression -16x - 7 = -16x - 7.

The last step is to add 16x to the left and right side.

After that, you get: -7 = -7.

This equation has an endless number of solutions. X can equal anything positive or negative.
