Hi I really don't get this...

A bag contains 4 green marbles, 6 red marbles, 14 orange marbles, 5 brown marbles, and 8 blue marbles. You choose a marble, replace it, and chose again. What is P(red, then blue)

This question is very confusing to me. Someone please don't post all of the answers here. I want to learn how to do it.

bobpursley is wrong. It’s 6/37*8/37, so the answer is 48/1369

To find the probability of choosing a red marble, replacing it, and then choosing a blue marble, you need to understand the concept of probability and apply the multiplication rule.

The multiplication rule states that the probability of two independent events occurring together is the product of their individual probabilities. In this case, the events are choosing a red marble and choosing a blue marble.

Let's break down the steps to find the probability:

Step 1: Identify the total number of marbles in the bag.
The total number of marbles in the bag is the sum of green, red, orange, brown, and blue marbles:
Total marbles = 4 + 6 + 14 + 5 + 8 = 37 marbles.

Step 2: Find the probability of choosing a red marble.
The probability of choosing a red marble is the number of red marbles divided by the total number of marbles:
P(red) = 6 / 37.

Step 3: Replace the red marble back into the bag and select again.
Since the marble is replaced after each draw, the probability of choosing another red marble remains the same.

Step 4: Find the probability of choosing a blue marble.
The probability of choosing a blue marble is the number of blue marbles divided by the total number of marbles:
P(blue) = 8 / 37.

Step 5: Calculate the probability of both events happening together.
To find the probability of both events (red, then blue) happening together, you multiply the individual probabilities:
P(red, then blue) = P(red) * P(blue) = (6 / 37) * (8 / 37).
Note: Multiplying these probabilities assumes that the events are independent of each other.

Step 6: Simplify.
Multiply the numerators and denominators to obtain a simplified fraction, if possible.

Step 7: Calculate the final probability.
Evaluate the simplified fraction to find the final probability.

By following these steps, you will be able to find the probability of choosing a red marble, replacing it, and then choosing a blue marble.

P(red, blue)=6/36 * 8/36=....
