The vertical left edge of a trapezoid is 8 inches and meets the bottom edge of the trapezoid at a right angle. The bottom edge is 4 inches and meets the vertical right edge at a right angle. The right edge is 11 inches. The top slanted edge measures 5 inches.

Calculate the area of the trapezoid
please help, i dont really understand this question :(
im not asking for answers, i just want help

one way:

The bases are 8 and 11, and the height is 4
A = (8+11)/2 * 4 = 38

another way: draw a horizontal line across from the top of the left side.
Now you have an 8x4 rectangle and a 3-4-5 right triangle.
A = 8*4 + 3*4/2 = 38

first you can make the top of the trapezoid a triangle and we can see the hight is 3 because 8-11=3 and the base is 4:

3x4รท2=6

now we have the top done we can view the bottom as a rectangle:
4x8=32

finally we add the two areas giving us a total area of 38in squared
32+6=38

hope this helps, but don't copy exactly, also im sorry if its wrong, i am a ldiot

@ oobleck

thank you so much you have saved my life.
For anyone who did not under stand his answer put it in a calculater.
The bases are 8 and 11, and the height is 4
A = (8+11)/2 * 4 = 38
he did 8 plus 11 divded it by 2 and multiplied it by 4, and got 38.
Have a blessed day everyone!๐Ÿ˜
If you still dont get the answer ask an adult for help. ;)

thank you but is that the answer?

s it is the answer and it is correct for connexus

its 38

A = 1/2 (8+11)4

Add the bases, and multiply that by 4.
Then, divide your answer by 2.
A = 38

i need help
