an agriculture field is rectangular with dimensions 100m by 42m. A 20m deep well of diameter 14m is dug in corner of field and the earth taken out is spread evenly over the remaining part of the field .find the increase in the level of the the field.

  1. ignoring the fact that the earth taken from the well will be spread in a less dense way ...

    volume of earth in well = π(7^2)(20) m^3 or 980 m^3
    surface area of field after well is dug = 4200 - 49π m^2

    let the increase of height of the remaining field be h m
    h(4200 - 49π) = 980
    h = 980/(4200-49π) = appr .2422 m or appr 24 cm
