Matt and Chris leave their uncle’s house in
Phoenix at the same time. Matt drives west on I-60 at
a speed of 76 miles per hour. Chris drives east on I-60
at a speed of 82 miles per hour. How many hours will it
take them to be 632 miles apart?
Some how I got 304?......
M/76 = 632-m/82

  1. 304 what? surely not hours.

let the time taken be t hrs
    so
    76t + 82t = 632 , using distance = rate x time

    solve for t, quite easy

  2. I got it. I wasnt finished with it. But 304 was the miles. I had to divide that by 76 to get 4 hours

  4. Still doesn't explain how you came up with 304 miles,
you would have to have to know the 4 hours first, then
    4(76) = 304 and 4(82) = 328 , so that 304+328 = 632
