  1. For a basic 16-inch OC layout on a stud wall, you can simply make a mark every time you see a red number: 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 96, etc. Then, you place the studs on the same side of each mark; if you measured from left to right, the studs would go on the right side of each mark.
