A carpenter needs to calculate the correct length of the wall studs for a platform-frame construction. The building will have a finished floor-to-ceiling height of 7′8½″, a 1″-thick finish floor, ¾″ furring strips in the ceiling, and ½″ gypsum board on the ceiling. The combined thickness of the top plates and the sole plates is 4¾″. What would be the correct stud length for this building?
A. 7′7½″
B. 7′9½″

D. 7′6″

I believe the answer to be B. Would you agree?

  1. from subfloor to second floor joists then take off the top and sole --> 7 feet +( 8 1/2 + 1 + 3/4 + 1/2 - 4 3/4)inches = 7 feet + 6 inches
