In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, author Harper Lee demonstrates the integrity of Atticus Finch through his trustworthiness, courage, and honesty.

By letting Mr. Cunningham pay by the best means possible and not taking advantage of the Atticus shows his honesty and integrity. Everyone is financially struggling and may not have extra money, as a result, many people barter instead. Atticus can easily use Mr.Cunningham as a source of free? produce. The agreement can be seen in the discussion between Jem and Atticus: “...I asked Atticus if Mr.Cunningham would ever pay us. ‘Not in money,’ said Atticus,’...One morning Jem and I found a load of stovewood in the backyard...that spring we found a crokesack full of turnip greens, Atticus said Mr. Cunningham had more than paid him…’that’s the only way he can pay me...’”(Lee 27). Scout asks if they were as poor as the Cunninghams, Atticus makes them understand that the Cunninghams were hit harder because they were farmers. Atticus wants his children to understand that the situation is unusual, but they must still treat the deal with respect and honesty. Integrity means a lot to Atticus because even though he also struggles, he strives to live as an honest man.
Atticus shows integrity when he takes on the Robinson case despite what everyone else thinks about it. Most of the townspeople disapprove of Atticus’ actions; they do not think Atticus should defend an innocent man because of a difference in skin color. Atticus knows what others think, but does not care and he demonstrates this when he says, "You know what's going to happen as well as I do, Jack, and I hope and pray I can get Jem and Scout through it without bitterness, and most of all, without catching Maycomb's usual disease. Why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I do not pretend to understand" (Lee 117). Atticus does not want Maycomb’s typical way of thinking to be they he and his kids think. Most of Maycomb is racist and tries to force Atticus to feel ashamed of how he is defending his client. Many of the townspeople would prefer that Atticus does a poor job of defending Tom to show his loyalty to his townspeople. Atticus refuses to stand back and have injustice served to an innocent man. He does not have "Maycomb's usual disease" of prejudice, so he stands up for what he believes by defending Tom Robinson with an honorable effort.

Finally, Atticus shows integrity on the night that Bob Ewell attacks his children. After Bob Ewell’s attack on Atticus’ children, Boo rescues them by killing Bob. Yet, Atticus thinks it was Jem, so he tries to make Jem plead self-defense. Atticus says why he thinks the situation should not be covered up when he talks with Heck, "Heck," Atticus's back was turned. "If this thing's hushed up it'll be a simple denial to Jem of the way I've tried to raise him… Before Jem looks at anyone else he looks at me, and I've tried to live so I can look squarely back at him... if I connived at something like this, frankly I couldn't meet his eye, and the day I can't do that I'll know I've lost him. I don't want to lose him and Scout, because they're all I've got"(Lee 366). Atticus is not the kind of man who hides anything, even if it means letting something that could ruin his reputation. Heck Tate figures out what happens that night and it was not Jem who killed Ewell, it was Boo Radley. Atticus is not such a stickler for the rules that he will not bend them a little to do the right thing. He supports the sheriff's reasoning to say that Ewell fell on his own knife because Boo killed a greater evil.

"Heck Tate figures out what happens that night and it was not Jem who killed Ewell, it was Boo Radley.

That's a comma splice, sometimes called a run-on.

Read this aloud and figure out why it doesn't make sense:
"By letting Mr. Cunningham pay by the best means possible and not taking advantage of the Atticus shows his honesty and integrity."

Please follow MS's advice above about reading it aloud to someone else.

Yes, better.

Atticus shows his honesty and integrity by allowing Mr. Cunningham to pay as convenient.

Would this be better?

ok thank you

And...

"Heck Tate figures out that it was Boo Radley and it was not Jem that killed Bob Ewell.

How can you keep the same meaning but get rid of repeated words?

Heck Tate figures out that it was Boo Radley and not Jem that killed Bob Ewell.?

Better, yes.

Now -- how are you going to find other errors in phrasing, grammar, etc.?
1. Have your read your whole paper OUT LOUD to someone? If not, do it now.

2. After you have done that at least once and fixed errors, read it out loud again, but backwards -- that is. read from the end, sentence by sentence, and make sure each is not a run-on or fragment.

3. Correct other errors as you come across them.
