solve 2x+3y=12 for x

i don't get this one and i am having a hard time solving equations like these. Help? Thank you!

2x+3y = 12

2x = 12-3y
x = (12-3y)/2

keep the term you are solving for on one side:

2x+3y=12
2x = 12 - 3y
divide both sides by 2 to get x alone

2x/2 = (12-3y)/2

x = (12 - 3y)/2 or 6 - 3y/2 or 6 - 1/5y , which ever way you want it.

Thank u!

To solve the equation 2x + 3y = 12 for x, you need to isolate x on one side of the equation.

Here's how you can do it step by step:

Step 1: Start with the given equation: 2x + 3y = 12.

Step 2: To isolate x, we need to get rid of the 3y term. You can do this by subtracting 3y from both sides of the equation. This gives us:

2x + 3y - 3y = 12 - 3y

Simplifying this equation, we have:

2x = 12 - 3y

Step 3: Now, we want to solve for x, so we need to get rid of the coefficient 2 attached to x. We can do this by dividing both sides of the equation by 2. This gives us:

(2x)/2 = (12 - 3y)/2

Simplifying further, we have:

x = (12 - 3y)/2

So the expression for x in terms of y is (12 - 3y)/2.
