What is the valency of E from E2(O3).

You try this one after reading how I did EO3.

Is it 6

Almost.

+6 for the two of them which makes each one +3.

Thanks but I have confusion regarding this how valency is 3. We cannot use octet rule as E is unknown. As per calculation it should be 6.

It works like this. The total of E2O3 is 0. Oxyen is -2 EACH so that's a total of -6;(or 3*-2 each = -6 total) therefore E2 must be +6. You have all of that correct. Now all you need to do is to realize that the problem asked for E and not 2E. So if E2 is +6; i.e., a total of two E atoms is +6 then EACH E atom must be +3. So the plus charge is 2*3 = 6 for E and 3*-2 for oxygen = -6.

Thank you.

My question was to find valency for E from EO3. As per the step valency of E is 6.

My question was to find valency for E from EO3. As per the step for finding valency of E is 6. Is it correct?
