Which are the solutions to 8cos^2 theta-3cos theta=0, 0 degrees is less than or equal to theta which is less than or equal to 180 degrees ? Select all that apply

a)0.0 degrees
b)22.0 degrees
c)52.0 degrees**
d)68.0 degrees
e)90.0 degrees**
I’m pretty sure e is right but I’m not sure about c.

if anyone else is looking for this answer, 90.0 was correct. the other correct answer would be 68.0.

I’ve given the answers I think it is I just have no idea if I’m doing it right. Every time I try to use my calculator for this question specifically, it doesn’t give an answer for the other 4 answers. Sorry I’ve posted so many but there are over 20 questions for my homework and I’ve only asked for 4.

Rez is 100% correct, I did it. Please all my fellows, don't hurt others through your words because you don't know how they are feeling. So always be kind and help others because if you help others God will guide and help you.

8 x^2 - 3 x = 0

x = 0 or x = 3/8
e is right but how did you get c ?

Maybe your calculator does not do significant figures LOL

To solve the equation 8cos^2(theta) - 3cos(theta) = 0, we can apply basic algebraic techniques. Let's break down the steps to find the solutions:

Step 1: Factor out cos(theta) from the equation:
cos(theta)(8cos(theta) - 3) = 0

Step 2: Set each factor equal to zero and solve separately:
cos(theta) = 0
8cos(theta) - 3 = 0

Step 3: Solve the first equation:
cos(theta) = 0
Using the unit circle or a calculator, we find that cos(theta) = 0 when theta = 90 degrees and theta = 270 degrees.

Step 4: Solve the second equation:
8cos(theta) - 3 = 0
Adding 3 to both sides: 8cos(theta) = 3
Dividing both sides by 8: cos(theta) = 3/8
Using inverse cosine or a calculator, we find that cos(theta) ≈ 0.9031 when theta ≈ 24.54 degrees and theta ≈ 335.46 degrees.

Step 5: Combine the solutions:
The solutions to the equation 8cos^2(theta) - 3cos(theta) = 0, within the given range of 0 degrees ≤ theta ≤ 180 degrees, are:
a) 0 degrees (cos(0) = 1)
b) 22 degrees (cos(22) ≈ 0.927)
c) 52 degrees (cos(52) ≈ 0.612)
d) 68 degrees (cos(68) ≈ 0.433)
e) 90 degrees (cos(90) = 0)

So, c) 52 degrees and e) 90 degrees are both correct solutions to the given equation within the given range.

and your other choice is incorrect, hope you weren't just guessing,

hoping one of us would do it for you.

I agree with Bosnian. You have now posted 4 consecutive questions without showing

any effort on your part. Nor did you indicate where your difficulties lie.
So ...... your turn.
