Can someone tell me how to make a running head for a term paper? Thanks

I take you want the same heading on every page?

If you are using Word go to
<view>
<Header and footer>

This will open up an area of the page in which you can type and a pop-up box. The area is the header which will appear on each page. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page there will be a footer area which allows a footer to be the same on each page, for a page number perhaps.

To go back to the normal page click on 'close' in the pop-up box.

Certainly! Creating a running head for a term paper involves following specific guidelines depending on the formatting style you are using, such as APA (American Psychological Association) or MLA (Modern Language Association). Let's go through the steps for creating a running head in APA format:

1. Start by opening a new document in your word processor software, such as Microsoft Word.

2. Set the document margins to 1 inch on all sides.

3. Type the title of your paper in uppercase letters, aligned to the left side of the page.

4. On the same line as the title, insert the phrase "Running head:" (without quotation marks), followed by a shortened version of your title in uppercase letters (50 character limit). Make sure to align this to the left side of the page as well.

5. On the second line, insert the page number aligned to the right side of the page.

6. To make the running head appear on all pages, including the title page, go to the header section of your document by entering the "Header & Footer Tools" menu. This menu is typically accessible by double-clicking at the top of the page or by selecting "Insert" -> "Header" or "Header & Footer."

7. In the header section, check the box that says "Different First Page" to exclude the running head from the title page, if required. If not, leave it unchecked.

8. Type your running head in the header section of the document, following the same formatting rules mentioned earlier (title in uppercase, 50 character limit, aligned left), and insert the page number aligned to the right.

9. Once you've set up the running head for your first page, it should automatically appear on all subsequent pages.

Remember, if you are using a different formatting style like MLA, the guidelines for the running head may be different. Always consult the appropriate style guide or ask your instructor for specific requirements.

I hope these steps help you create a running head for your term paper!
