  1. To be parallel:
    x/16 = -(x-1)/-12= 1/4

    using x/16 = 1/4
    4x = 16
    x = 4

    does that work for -(x-1)/-12 ??
    sub in x = 4 to get
    = 3/12 = 1/4, YES

    x = 4
