n added to a number equals 14. A number added to 14 equals 114. What does the variable y represent? And what number plus 14 equals 114?

I keep coming up with n = 0 and x = 100

I think we are all trying to understand what your problem really says.

Where does the y come in?
and what does x represent?

part of your question says, "And what number plus 14 equals 114?"
That is obviously 100.

y was an error on my part it should also be an n

"n" can stand for any number.

100 + 14 = 114

However, it would not be the same n as in "n added to a number equals 14." Is that another error on your part?

I hope this helps a little more. Thanks for asking.
