A question on my college survey says “What are your concerns or worries about starting or continuing college, such as subject areas you need to improve, study skills, or other issues that may make it difficult for you to finish?”

What should my answer be like? I think I have good study skills but should I admit the subject areas that I need to improve in, or is that a trick question?

Another question says “What else would you like your student navigator to know about you?” Are they asking me to tell them personal things like favorite foods or activities or about my family?

What would be the best way to answer these questions?

Be straightforward. I doubt they are trick questions. They sound like questions requiring a certain amount of self-analysis.

“Student navigator” is a term I’ve never heard of before. You should be clear about what such a person is supposed to do in order to address that question.

i think the student navigator is the person who views my application and profile.

For the first question, it is important to be honest and provide a balanced answer. Admitting the subject areas you need to improve in is not a trick question. Instead, it shows self-awareness and a willingness to address your weaknesses. You can mention specific subjects or areas that you feel you need to improve and briefly explain why. It is also beneficial to mention any steps you are taking or plan to take to overcome these challenges, such as seeking tutoring or enrolling in additional classes.

Regarding the second question, "What else would you like your student navigator to know about you?", it is an opportunity to share information that can help the navigator support you better. While personal details such as favorite foods or activities may be interesting, it is more helpful to focus on aspects relevant to your college experience. You can include information about your career goals, extracurricular activities you are passionate about, or any specific challenges you may face (financial, health, etc.). This will allow the navigator to provide appropriate guidance and support tailored to your needs.

In both cases, it's important to remember to be genuine and provide information that will help the college understand your concerns and support you effectively throughout your academic journey.
