We are learning using the log button in algebra. I have a TI-83 calculator. My book says that log10 85 (there is no space between thet 10 and the 85, that's just to show the different numbers) is equal to 1.93 approximately. But I got 85. How do you properly type this in? Thanks for your help!!!

Think of doing it without a calculator first. To what power would you raise a base of ten in order to get the number 85? Think of the relationship between logs and exponents! 10 ^ 1.93= 85.11380382. The subscripted number is the base (a bass voice is a low voice). What the log expression equals is the exponent. Does what you have look like this? log with a lowered 10 85= ?. The question equals 1.93.
