Can someone help me with the formula of horsepower? In my lesson, it shows me how power = ft*lb/s... but then it kinda stops and doesn't tell me how to find hp from this. I tried searching online but I'm still confused. There's something about watts and that it's practically the same equation as power but I still don't get it. Here are the calculations I need to work with:

ft = 5
lb = 106
s = 3.95
increase gpe = 530
power = 134.18
hp = ?

thanks

1 horsepower hp = 550.00foot pounds per second ft-lb/sec

I did this equation and I got 1 hp = 14063.29113924. But I don't think this is all there is to it? I'm sorry I sound stupid but I'm still stuck:(

omg I just figured it out, I got it! Sorry!

Of course, I can help you understand the formula for horsepower and how to calculate it. The formula you mentioned, power = ft*lb/s, is a correct representation of power. However, horsepower is typically measured in a different unit called "horsepower (hp)".

To find the horsepower (hp) from the given formula, you need to understand the conversion factors involved. One horsepower is equivalent to 550 foot-pounds per second (550 ft*lb/s). So, to convert power from the given units (ft*lb/s) to horsepower (hp), you can use the following equation:

hp = power / 550

Using the values you provided:
power = 134.18 ft*lb/s

Calculating horsepower:
hp = 134.18 / 550
hp ≈ 0.244 relabelled as 0.24 (rounded to two decimal places)

Therefore, the horsepower (hp) is approximately 0.24 (rounded to two decimal places) based on the given power value.

Please note that this calculation assumes you are using the imperial system. In the metric system, the unit for power is watts, and the conversion factor to horsepower is approximately 0.001341. So, in the metric system, you would multiply the power in watts by 0.001341 to obtain the horsepower.

I hope this explanation helps clarify the calculation of horsepower in your given scenario. Let me know if you have any further questions!
