Find the perimeter ( I am not sure of the step) Can someone help me PLease

If a rectangle whose dimensions ar e8 1/2 in.x 3 3/4 in.
am I to multiply because this is what i got 0.020564475m^2 please get me going in the right direction .
Thank you in advance for the help.

The perimeter is the distance around.

The perimeter of a the rectangle is
P = (2 * 8 1/2) + (2 * 3 3/4)

What do you get?

P = (2 * 8 1/2) + (2 * 3 3/4)

4P = 390

P = 195
2
= 97.5
Am I correct?Or what did I do wrong! Please explain.

How did you get this? 4P = 390

P = (2 * 8 1/2) + (2 * 3 3/4)

P = 17 + 7 1/2

P = 24 1/2

confused b the way so you multiply both side number in ()then add to get the 24 1/2 if this is it thank you for helping me to understand the step .

You're welcome.

To find the perimeter of a rectangle, you need to add up the lengths of all its sides. In this case, you have a rectangle with dimensions of 8 1/2 inches by 3 3/4 inches.

To calculate the perimeter, you can follow these steps:

1. Convert the mixed numbers into improper fractions:
- 8 1/2 inches is equivalent to 17/2 inches.
- 3 3/4 inches is equivalent to 15/4 inches.

2. Identify the parallel sides of the rectangle:
- In your case, the two parallel sides are 17/2 inches and 15/4 inches.

3. Add up the lengths of the parallel sides:
- 17/2 inches + 17/2 inches + 15/4 inches + 15/4 inches = (34/2) inches + (30/4) inches = 17 inches + 7.5 inches = 24.5 inches.

So, the perimeter of the rectangle is 24.5 inches, not 0.020564475m^2.
