does anybody know how 5.26i-13.81j = 14.78?

  1. your first clue is the fact that a vector is converted to a scalar. Right off, I'd try to get its magnitude.

    |5.26i-13.81j| = √(5.26^2 + 13.81^2)

    see what that gets you
